Whoa, whoa, whoa! It looks like Brenton Thwaites is not playing the male lead in Transformers 4 as previously rumored. That role has gone to Jack Reynor, Michael Bay announced on his message board yesterday (via Comingsoon).
This is what he wrote:
"I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie WHAT RICHARD DID. This kid is the real deal.
Transformers 4, is not a reboot. That word has been floating around on the net.
This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different than the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy."
Reynor was one of the actors in contention for the role along with Luke Grimes, Landon Liboiron, Brenton Thwaites, and Hunter Parrish. He will play a race car driver who's the boyfriend of Mark Wahlberg's daughter.
Since that Thwaites rumor turned out to be false, it cast a shadow of a doubt on Nicola Peltz being chosen for the daughter role, which is a choice between Peltz, Isabelle Cornish, Margaret Quallay, Gabriella Wilde, and Alex Frnka.
We can expect Bay to make the announcement on his message board once he's set on one of the actresses above.
Transformers 4 is shooting this Spring for a July 4, 2014 release.
