If you?re looking for people who can talk about how they?re better off today than they were four years ago, I recommend you pay a visit to the Democrats Abroad delegation, which is located just off the convention floor between Florida and Kansas.

These are Americans who live overseas, but are mostly registered to vote at their last domestic address.?They are expats but renounce the term because some people think it means they used to be patriotic.?The Democratic National Committee, unlike Republicans, treats them like a state or territory. This year, the Democrats Abroad delegation represents Americans living on five continents.

?Like many of us, we can see more than anyone how Barack Obama has improved our reputation abroad.?It?s a particular difference between 2008 and now,? says Vicki Hansen Thackray, an Iowa native who lives in Luxembourg and serves as Democrats Abroad?s international vice chair.??It?s part of the reason we?re so ardent.?

Democrats Abroad made a surprisingly high-profile cameo in American domestic politics during the 2008 primary season when Obama emerged with a net gain of two delegates over Hillary Clinton from the group?s virtual seven-delegate primary.?This year the delegation?s votes are a formality, but they say they are able to share ground-level testimony to Obama?s ability to deliver change.

?Before 2008, when we traveled abroad we wouldn?t tell people we were American,? said Kenneth E. Sherman, a former Democratic committee man in Buffalo who now lives in Ontario with dual citizenship.?He was elected Democrats Abroad?s international chair in 2008, propelled by a campaign speech in which he waved his American passport.?The point, Sherman recalled, was that during the Bush years he had been ashamed to show it to border authorities, presenting a Canadian document instead.?Now, he said, ?I am proud to carry my US passport again.?

Thackray expressed modest disapproval of her fellow delegate.?She had never felt ashamed to be American, she said, but the four years of Obama had indeed brought an appreciable improvement to her quality of life in Luxembourg. ?People want to sit next to me at the dinner table again,? she said.

Union protests at ArcelorMittal U.S. plants over contract

Tony Montana, a spokesman for the United Steelworkers union (USW) said the "corporate-wide mobilizations" took place at 15 ArcelorMittal plants, as well as at the company's U.S. headquarters in Chicago.

"Our members held spirited rallies to show their solidarity with our bargaining committee as we continue negotiating for a fair contract at ArcelorMittal," Montana told Reuters in a telephone interview.

He described the actions as "a variety of activities," including informational picketing, chanting and marching.

The Luxembourg-based company, the world's largest steelmaker, took precautionary measures at its plants last week in case of a strike. The union said it has not taken the strike option off the table.

Montana said negotiations were continuing with ArcelorMittal after the union separately reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with U.S. Steel Corp on Sunday for more than 16,000 workers.

The USW's previous contracts with U.S. Steel and ArcelorMittal both expired at midnight on Saturday.

"With U.S. Steel reaching a tentative agreement over the weekend, why does ArcelorMittal continue to drag its feet?" David McCall, chairman of the USW negotiating committee, said in a letter to about 10,000 USW members at the company's plants in Indiana, Ohio and other U.S. states.

The union said the main sticking points in the contract talks were over funding for retiree health-care premiums and for pension benefits.

William Steers, a spokesman for ArcelorMittal USA in Chicago, did not comment on the USW action.

"Negotiations continue between ArcelorMittal and the United Steelworkers. We remain optimistic about reaching a fair and equitable contract with the USW," he said in an e-mail to Reuters.

The possibility of a work stoppage comes at a difficult time for the steel industry, which is suffering from weak demand and low prices. U.S. steelmakers have cut capacity to manage supply, but demand has still not returned to pre-recession levels.

Last month, ArcelorMittal said tough market conditions would continue into the second half of the year, particularly in Europe, where it lowered its consumption forecast due to the severity of the slowdown.

ArcelorMittal stock closed down 1.8 percent at $14.38 on the New York Stock Exchange.

There is nothing good about this!

Cons

Force installs on to your computer by piggy backing some other piece of useful software. This is an under handed way of gaining market share. Automatically changes your browser settings. If this isn't malware then I don't know what is.

Cannot be removed without quite a bit of effort De-installation failed. I'm very disappointed with this company. Will not use any products from this company again. Stay away.

It aggressively changes your settings to your computer. When you uninstall it messes up your IE browser and when you call them. They don't know.

Summary

Terrible software that does harm to your computer. Damages your installed software and changes your environment. It's more like a virus.

Continue to find my internet security status is unprotected and when try to correct as service rep tells me, I still can't. I purchased this in December 2011...have had this problem occur 5 times! Can't uninstall it, even with the special uninstall software they sent me the link to. HATE THIS SOFTWARE!

Don't waste your money on the paid version...it's crap!

"AVG suite is good"

Pros

In my test AVG was able to detect about 96.2 % of all malware
I throw at it which is a very good improvment since the last
time I test it out.

Notis that they improved the GUI abit..not really a big change
but at least it looks somewhat modern..

Cons

What really didnt like was AVG toolbar..it almost cover the hole
menubar..with apps links to Windows Explorer,Calulator, things I can access easily on my own way..its so unnecessary.
And the link for weather forecast..seriously AVG needs to knows where the line goes between Security related and none security related applications...Site safty rating and search safty rating
that all thats needed

Summary

AVG suite is good but its hard to trust AVG as comany
beacuse they beginning to act as a big ad-company..

Continually finding wanted mail in my junk box, despite repeatedly adding them to my safe list, & still receive spam in my inbox. Have spoken to customer support but the issues remain... :-(

WON'T WORK PROPERLY. WILL NOT UNINSTALL even after using a separate AVG removal tool!

Summary

Bought the boxed paid version. Difficult installation-Horrible instructions and no direct autostart from disk. Had to install with questionable directions. After installed & updated, the product shut down 3 times while online and left me with no firewall! Program said "no components!" and then disappeared. Rebooted. It updated again and changed interface then did the same thing! I even registered the product and received a notice that they even changed my license number...huh?! I finally gave up and uninstalled the product only to find it would not leave my computer! (Windows says that it is still my virus and firewall) Found on the website that I had to install a separate removal tool to get rid of the !#)!&%!& thing.I did that and it IS STILL on my computer. This little box came up and left. Nothing more happened and Windows still thinks it is my antivirus AND firewall! Once this thing is finally off my system-I will never install it again.

The Salvadorian government is without the funds to pay its income tax returns. The head of the Ministry of Finance confirmed that there are still more than $30 million worth of outstanding income tax returns for the fiscal year 2011 yet to be paid.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) ? Nina Musselman had no trouble finding a family doctor when she retired to rural Oregon nine years ago to be closer to her children. But then that doctor moved away, leaving her to search for another who would take Medicare.

After a year of going from doctor to doctor, she finally found one who stuck.

As record numbers of baby boomers go into retirement, many are thinking about moving from the places they needed to live to make a living, and going someplace warmer, quieter or prettier.

If they choose small towns like Grants Pass, 250 miles south of Portland, they could well have a hard time finding a family doctor willing to take Medicare, even supplemental plans, rather than private insurance.

"It's a sad situation for seniors," she said.

There are several reasons boomers, the 78 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964, could face difficulties finding a doctor if they retire to small towns over the next 20 years.

First, many primary care doctors prefer to live and work in urban areas because of greater cultural opportunities, better schools and job opportunities for spouses.

Also, Medicare pays rural doctors less per procedure than urban physicians because their operating costs are supposedly less. That makes rural doctors less likely to accept Medicare patients.

With cuts to Medicare reimbursement for doctors targeted under the federal health care overhaul, the shortage is likely to get even worse, said Mark Pauly, professor of health care management at the University of Pennsylvania.

That is, unless increasing reimbursements for nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants encourages those providers to take up the slack, Pauly said.

If the Medicare cuts go through, "the doctors are saying: "We're out of here,'" Pauly said. "The least they are saying is: 'We'll treat Medicare patients like we treat Medicaid patients,' which is mostly not."

Still, there is some good news, depending on where you live.

Pauly said the Affordable Care Act "puts a lot of emphasis on wellness programs and primary care. Nurses, especially nurse practitioners, are intended to play a major role there."

In Oregon, Washington and 14 other states, nurses and nurse practioners "can operate independently of doctors, writing prescriptions, ordering tests, and even running clinics," Pauly said.

Nationwide, the 22.5 percent of primary care doctors who practice in rural areas roughly matches the 24 percent of Medicare patients living there, said Dr. Roland Goertz, chairman of the American Academy of Family Physicians board.

A survey of academy members nationwide shows 83 percent take new Medicare patients. But there is an overall shortage of primary care physicians that still makes it hard for retirees to find a family doctor.

The real problem, he said, is that the health care system "has not supported a robust, adequate primary care workforce for over 30 years."

According to the American Association of Medical Colleges, rural areas need about 20,000 primary care doctors to make up for the shortages, but only about 16,500 medical doctors and 3,500 doctors of osteopathy graduate yearly.

"We are always trying to recruit doctors. We are barely keeping even," said Lyle Jackson, the medical director at the Mid-Rogue Independent Physician Association, a cooperative of doctors in Josephine County, where Musselman lives.

Taking part in the Medicare Advantage program, which pays a higher rate to doctors than standard Medicare, helps, but is still not enough, said Jackson, a former family physician.

A 2009 survey of doctors in the Oregon Medical Association showed concern over Medicare reimbursement rates topping the list of 23 issues, with 79 percent rating it as very important, said Joy Conklin, an official at the association.

The survey showed 19.1 percent of Oregon doctors had closed their practices to Medicare, and 28.1 percent had restricted the numbers of Medicare patients.

That really becomes evident in Josephine County, which attracted retirees after the timber industry collapsed.

Low taxes, cheap housing, wineries, a symphony and low traffic put it in top 10 lists for retirement communities. The 2010 census puts the number of people older than 65 at 23 percent, compared to 14 percent for the state.

But the website County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, which gathers a wide range of health care data nationwide, shows 933 patients for every primary care physician in the county, nearly 50 percent higher than the national 631-to-one rate.

At the Grants Pass Clinic, Dr. Bruce Stowell said they are no longer taking new Medicare patients. Medicare pays about 45 percent of what commercial insurance pays.

As it is, their proportion of Medicare patients is double that of a similar Portland practice.

"We used to get a steady stream of high-quality (resumes) from U.S.-trained and U.S.-born physicians," he said. "Over the last year, that stream has declined into a trickle. Very few (doctors) are choosing to go into primary care."

Schools are turning out more nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

How well they fill the doctor gap will depend largely on how much independence states give them to practice, said Tay Kopanos, director of health care policy for state affairs at the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Meanwhile, overall demand for primary care will be increasing as more people can afford it under the Affordable Care Act, said Joanne Spetz, a health care policy professor at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Atul Grover, chief of public policy for the American Association of Medical Colleges, said the nation is facing a tough time recruiting for primary care as well as other specialties that treat Medicare patients, such as oncologists.

When he decided to become a primary care doctor in the 1990s, it was because of a widespread belief that health maintenance organizations were going to be hiring all the doctors.

He said they wanted primary care doctors to emphasize wellness and prevention. Now, many graduates are moving into specialties that do procedures, such as surgery, because Medicare pays more for them than plain-old office visits.

Also, the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 capped the number of residencies paid by Medicare, so there is no quick way to increase the numbers of doctors in general, let alone in rural areas, he said.

"An entire year's worth of doctor production is needed to deal with the (rural-area) shortage just today," he said.
